Everyone worries about AI and how it will wreck our lives, but if you’re reading this article, AI has manipulated you.

Medium’s algorithm acts like a hustler on Roosevelt Avenue in New York City— handing you a flyer with my article printed. He’s figured out from your meanderings on this website that you may enjoy this article, so he puts it in your feed.

If I’m not the headline act, he’ll scramble to show you another article you may like since you have already entered your preferences. If a Medium story gets tremendous applause, it’ll appear in your feed since it acts like chum in shark-infested waters.

The readers swarm about the article and rip it to shreds in the comments.

More applause.

If you’re looking at anything through a backlit screen, AI constantly filters everything since you’ve already input your likes and dislikes.

We keep feeding the AI monster with data and don’t know how to stop.
