Rockstar Employees Are Forced Back to the Office to Finish GTA VI— Are the New Consoles Far Behind?

Waiting is the hardest part

Rockstar — the developer of the video game GTA VI told their staff they need to return to work to finish work on the project — this was after the trailer for GTA VI dropped in December and and the release date on the trailer was “2025”.

With all of this activity on this much anticipated video game title brings suspicion that the new consoles are on the horizon and this is not a “refresh” of the current console like Microsoft alluded to earlier this year. The new console would have a new OS and be more powerful than the last console generation to run the games that will take all of it’s processing power. Sony or Microsoft could be positioning their consoles as a competitor to Apple TV or the newly released Apple Vision Pro.

Who am I to forecast when these consoles will drop? I worked in video games for 13 years and went through 2 console transitions during that timeframe.

Reviewing the past history of GTA V and the release of the consoles may provide some clues as well as a few game development industry trends that need to take place before the new consoles are released.
