Woops, did I break something?

Finding your “niche” for any new writer is a time consuming experience, so I bought the book The Art and Business of Online Writing: How to Beat the Game of Capturing and Keeping Attention by Nicolas Cole to help me out.

In the book he outlined a concept called the “Content Buckets”.

Yes, if you are a writer on Medium you can keep wandering along since you probably heard of this theory since you may say “old news, bro!”.

For those of you still left, according to Nicolas, there are three types of “content buckets”.

I got stumped on the first bucket which is: An appealing topic for General Readers.

This content bucket is very generic and is centered around broad categories that are important to many readers — these could be self-help, lessons about life and other positive attributes. No matter what you do for a living you have some habits that you use to get through your day and you can write to your audience by finding your category.

I examined what I did every day and had several generic items I could write about being a project manager for a pharma company.

  • Innovation
  • Leadership
