Fewer random articles can help you grow as a writer.

Are you a newbie writer who has been told that you need to “niche down”?

Or are you an experienced writer who has become a little too random and you need to focus?

After finding my niche, I struggled to focus on core subjects. I wanted to write about random things that caught my attention.

These were five tips I learned to re-focus on my niche and not be distracted.

Less spontaneity brings more conflict

As a rule — it’s not in the correct quadrant in my carefully planned out grid of topics, I can’t write about it anymore.

My brain has a way of going off on tangents and it leads to many conversations with myself — for example:

Brain: My wife is watching Perry Mason for some reason. Should I write an article about what Perry Mason taught TV viewers in the 50s and 60s?

Me: You’re straying. Choose from the agreed list of topics to write about.

Tip: Use your random thoughts in your story

I improved my focus by using these deviations in my specific writing style.
