Fear is a powerful emotion that is designed to protect us.
The threat of harm from a real or imagined source triggers fear. Men react to fear in different ways — they can fight, freeze, fawn (please the source of the fear from causing harm), or flee. There is no right answer to how to behave when confronted with a threat — your brain takes over.
When it comes to retirement planning men have distress since there are several factors that play into their anxiety of the “golden years”. Each fear they possibly encounter on retirement has a solution on how to fight, freeze, fawn, or flee the underlying issues.
Life Is Given A Predetermined Length
Men fear death — it’s the one thing they can’t control, beat up or avoid.
When you do retirement planning you are actually given a “life expectancy” based on your lifestyle and health habits. This date is the year you are supposed to die — I know because my life expectancy is 82. I’m 53 now, so I have 29 good years left. No man wants to hear that they are not immortal.
