21 Productive Tips to Make You a Turbocharged Writer

After writing 60 articles on Medium in 60 days I learned a few things about being productive.

Twenty-one of them to be exact.

Working a 9–5 job limited my time, so I needed to figure out how to be as efficient as possible when writing.

Here are the tips I found to have the most impact.

Before Writing

  1. Keep a journal and write daily. This will help you generate ideas since it’s just you, a pen, and a piece of paper. Journaling also lets you focus and gives you the clarity to write the main article later. It clears all of the wandering thoughts in your head and traps them in the notebook.
  2. Populate a morgue of headlines. My “Drafts” folder on Medium is a list of headlines so I can start writing at any moment. I can pull it up on my phone, scroll down, and pick a headline to start writing about.
  3. Use ChatGPT for experimental headlines. I’m not saying to use ChatGPT to write your headlines — that’s the bane of any writer. But, I have a script I can run to get ideas. I can flesh out these ideas and play with them to get to a headline faster if I’m pressed for time.
